The slave trade is a tragic part of human history, marked by the forced migration and exploitation of millions of people from Africa to other parts of the world, particularly the Westerners. The scars of this system of oppression continue to be felt to this day, as many communities trace their roots back to this period and continue to suffer from the legacy of historical trauma. It's important to acknowledge and understand the impact of slavery, even hundreds of years later, in order to work towards true healing and reconciliation.
One important step is to educate ourselves and future generations about the history of oppression and discrimination, including slavery. This can include reading books, watching documentaries, and visiting museums and historical sites related to this topic. It's also important to engage in meaningful conversations with individuals from different backgrounds and perspectives, and to actively work towards dismantling systems of oppression through advocacy, volunteering, and supporting organizations that work towards social justice. Additionally, practicing empathy, compassion, and kindness towards others can help to create a more fair and just worlds
Artist Bio:
Agbabiaka Oluwakayode Dada is an artist (b. 1989), and also studied art in Yaba College of Technology school of art where he majored in painting. He is currently a Lagos base Nigerian artist he is also an Art Instructor and a dynamic artist with great versatile skills in his craft. He has participated with several art exhibition and workshop and carnival costume production for carnivals across Nigeria.
