Artist Bio
Gbenga Ajiboye had his early education at Government Secondary School, Omu Aran, Kwara State. In 1989 he got admitted into Obafemi Awolowo University where he bagged a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art (Painting Major) in the year 1994. His first solo exhibition was at Wogerum Hall, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1995. In 1996 he had a 2 man joint exhibition at the National Museum Onikan, Lagos. He took part in several exhibitions, private shows and salon. Ajiboye's artwork take a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. His work mimic the African dream, fairy tales, folklore, proverbs and idioms that are part of his childhood and adult culture. Oftentimes his themes are combined into mix media that feature brightly colored sophisticated bold and scintillating pallet knife strokes. While he uses various materials and processes in each project, his method is consistent and are linked by recurring formal concerns through the subject matter.
