Artist Bio

<p>Dr. Abiodun Akande is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. The focus of his research is on the knowledge systems in the arts and cultural practices of indigenous communities and the multilayered modernities affecting such practices in Africa. His recent publications include, &ldquo;A Reconsideration of the History and Iconology of Yoruba Equestrian Figure Through Two Ifa Verses and the OjudeOba Festival,&rdquo; (African Arts, 55 (2), 2022). His forthcoming article, &ldquo;Il&eacute; L&rsquo;àbò Simi Oko: Cogitations and Reflections about Homeland, Maxim and Theoretical Propensity for Yorùbá Religion Influences between &Ograve;yọ, Sábę, and Ifè-Ana,&rdquo; (Journal of Religion in Africa, 2023), trajects new perspectives into the definition of and thoughts about &lsquo;home/homeland,&rsquo; in indigenous, diasporic, and global contexts. Dr. Akande is an Editor of the Cogent Art and Humanities Journal, and the Editor-in-chief of the Nigerian Arts Reflection Journal. His recent publications include: &lsquo;The evocative powers of Yoruba art: Archetypal representations of ejo (snake) and eye (bird)&rsquo;, (KIU Journal of Social Sciences, 7 (1), 2021); &lsquo;Commonalities and disparities in the iconography of opon Ifa and iroke Ifa in Oyo, Sabe and Ife-Ana Yoruba communities&rsquo;, (African Arts 53 (2), 2020); and &lsquo;Ara orun kin-in kin-in: OyoYoruba egungun masquerade in communion and maintenance of ontological balance&rsquo;, (Genealogy 3 (7), 2019).</p>
