Artist Bio
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Segun Fagorusi is a young, exceptionally talented artist whose strength lies majorly in his draftsmanship skills and creative use of colours. A fine and applied arts graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, he also bagged a master’s degree in African visual arts from Nigeria's premiere university, the University of Ibadan.
Fagorusi's creative sensibility is directed towards using art to document activities that define his environment and the people in it. His paintings often interrogate human actions and inactions and their consequences as they affect the economic, political, and socio-cultural lives of society.
Segun Fagorusi's works illuminate the murky recesses of his troubled nation -Nigeria. His recent works have been centred on the living conditions of the aged people in Nigeria and how they have been left in villages and odd places to eke out a living and wallow in oblivion. He paints in oil, chalk pastel and acrylics. He has participated in several group exhibitions and has a solo exhibition to his credit. Fagorusi's works can be found in the collections of discerning art patrons within and outside Nigeria. His works add timeless value and quality to any collection that is privileged to have them within its fold.
