Artist Bio

Rasheed Adedamola Amodu was born in the sixties in Surulere, Lagos. He has a B.A. in Fine Arts, specializing in painting, from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1991, and an M.A., specializing in African Studies-Visual Art, in 2001 from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, and an M.Phil. in African Art Studies from OAU, Ile- Ife, in 2015. Amodu is still a research student at OAU, Ile-Ife. He has been practising as an artist since 1985 before going for further studies as well as being involved in other art-related engagements till date. Rasheed has contributed essays to some books, journals, exhibition catalogues, and newspapers. He was given a Distinguished Stewardship Award by the Society of Nigerian Artists, Lagos State Chapter in 2015. Rasheed has worked as a draughtsmanship trainee, graphic artist, art teacher, art and culture manager, and curator between 1984 and 2010. Amodu has been documented in several publications. His works have been collected in Nigeria and other countries such as the USA, England, Greece, and the Netherlands. Rasheed has executed many commissions in painting, sculpture, graphics, art management and other creative fronts. Amodu has five solo exhibitions and one two-man show to his name. He has participated in many group and joint exhibitions. Amodu did an Online Art Auction of 37 of his artworks on Instagram. His works are on Facebook, Instagram, saatchiart.com, artpal.com, and fineartamerica.com, among others. Amodu is a versatile artist, scholar, poet, art historian/critic, and consultant based in Lagos.
