Artist Bio

Badru Taofeek is a multimedia artist whose oeuvre comprises hand embroidered textiles, paintings, and sculptures. He is a Nigerian artist from Abeokuta, Ogun State. A true son of his artistic hometown, Badru began his career in art while commencing his higher education at the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta. There, he specialised in sculpture and textile, and proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University, IleIfe, Osun State where he obtained his B.A. and MFA degrees in Fine and Applied Arts (Textile DesignMajor). An ardent believer in indigenous spirituality who is also versed in African myths, history, proverbs, and, folklores, Badru constantly draws inspiration from his rich cultural heritage. In acknowledgment of this, his works feature patterns of the Adire Eleko fabric, and he combines these patterns with a heavy use of symbolic images to convey his visions. In all of Badru’s artistic expressions, his adroitness as a creator of high quality and culturally relevant works is evident. Badru has participated in several international and local exhibitions; many of which he shared with likeminded, talented artists. The most recent exhibition he participated in is the Textile Biennale “ IMAGE OF POWER” at the Museum Rijswijk, Netherlands. He was also part of a two-man exhibition, Me x Him, which held in Lagos, Nigeria, and has had a solo exhibition where some of his best works came to play. A globally and locally celebrated artist, Badru is a recipient of several awards which include: • 1st Runner-up, Etisalat Photography Competition( 2014) • Winner, FoodMeet Art byMinimie Noodles (2016) • Dr. Pius Okigbo Prize, Life inmy City Art Festival (LIMCAF), (2017) • Best Textile Artist Award, LIMCAF (2015, 2016&2018) • Young Talent Award fromthe Alliance Française Network in Nigeria (2018) • LIMCAF Winner (with 3 others) of Professor El Anatsui sponsorship to the 13th Dak’Art Biennale, Senegal (2018) Absa L’Atelier Ambassador (2022)
