Artwork Description:

Am'eniti

He weaves the mats and leans them on the wall... In Africa, hand woven mats hold cultural significance and practical value in various societies. They often serve as symbols of heritage, carrying historical patterns and designs that reflect a community's identity. Additionally, these mats are used for practical purposes, such as seating, sleeping, or decorating homes, contributing to the cultural fabric and daily life of many communities. The title, AM'ENITI, which literally means one who leans the mat against the wall and the English word amenity are homonyms. It is interesting that the mat is a basic amenity in its own right, and is metaphor for one of the most basic needs of humans. My c hoice of Soil medium for this piece is to support the campaign against soil degradation, global problem endangering sustainable development.
